Research Director Announcement

Research Director Announcement

8 May, 2017

The Board and staff of the Plant Biosecurity Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) are saddened to announce that Dr Jo Luck, our Director of Research, Education & Training, has decided to move on to a more secure position, as the CRC heads towards closure in just over 12 months time.

Jo has been a major driver in delivering high quality research right across the breadth of our portfolio, to the myriad of end-users in biosecurity. She has been instrumental in coordinating our national research, development and education program across the majority of biosecurity agencies and industries in Australia, and beyond. Jo has also been the key driver of our Education and Training program, personally helping many of our students through their PhDs, and the development of the highly successful industry internships.

We are delighted to know that Jo’s new role will use the same knowledge and skills. The role is to try to ensure good quality plant biosecurity science is now coordinated across all the plant-based Research and Development Corporations (RDCs). Jo said in announcing her decision to staff, “It’s a tough decision to leave the CRC, but this new position is a blank canvas, full of opportunity to make a difference to plant biosecurity through the RDCs. I really hope we can build on the CRC’s many years of delivering great science.”

The CRC will look to fill Jo’s role for the last year of our term. “We wish Jo all the very best and thank her for her contribution,” said Dr Martin Barlass, Chair of the Board. “We now look forward to further ramping up delivery of our science, and the Research and Education Director role is a good opportunity for someone to play an important role in delivery of a great portfolio of work.”

The Plant Biosecurity CRC would be happy to develop a secondment with an appropriate candidate if that suited. Please email Dr Michael Robinson for further information.

Jo will finish her term with the CRC at the next Board meeting on 15 June 2017.

Kind Regards

Dr Michael Robinson
