Science Protecting Plant Health
To be held at the Brisbane Convention Centre, Queensland Australia from 26-28 September 2017, Science Protecting Plant Health is a joint conference of the Plant Biosecurity Cooperative Research Centre and the Australasian Plant Pathology Society. It will present an exciting and invigorating scientific program that will appeal to a broad audience of researchers, students, educators and policy makers.
Conference themes will focus on the latest science, research and practice from leaders in their fields encompassing all the disciplines of plant biosecurity, plant pathology and entomology. Recent developments, as well as future advances, will be showcased at this peak event, with presentations by international, national and local speakers in a well-rounded program augmented by poster presentations and an exciting social schedule.

Half Day Surveillance Workshops
New Surveillance Strategies for Wind Dispersed Pests and Diseases

When: Tuesday 29th August 2017, 9.30-1.30
Where: Larrakia Conference Room (DPIR), Ground Floor, John England Building, Berrimah Farm, Makagon Road, Berrimah. The talks will be presented to Katherine Research Station and AZRI via video link.
We will discuss:
- The potential for pests and diseases to enter North Queensland by long distance wind dispersal
- New strategies for NAQS surveillance activities
- Demonstrations of alternative trapping techniques for surveillance
- New molecular tools for identifying exotic pests and diseases
- The new National Plant Surveillance Network
- An in-depth analysis of wind dispersed threats to SUGARCANE
This workshop is suitable for:
- NAQS and other surveillance staff
- Peak industry body representatives and extension staff
- Biosecurity Agencies
